Spring Break is just around the corner for our household and the air feels a bit different around here. It’s like all of us have senioritis and are just counting down the days until vacation bliss. It’s just about all we can think about. Getting away from the duties, stressors, work responsibilities, hurts, bills, homework, tests, laundry, dishes, commitments? Yes, please! Our family has been dealing with a lot this month and we excitedly look forward to the opportunity to get away from it all. Some people turn to binge drinking. We turn to vacations to free our minds. I highly encourage it.
Even if you aren’t a college student or parent of school-aged children, I encourage you to take a spring break. It’s the season of renewal after all and there are few better ways to renew your energy, refresh your body, reinvigorate your mind, and rebirth your appreciation for life than stepping away from your routines and the stress of everyday life for a time. It is so easy to be go go go these days and forget to take time to relax and refresh. Spring break is the perfect opportunity to do that.
The good news? I’m not encouraging you to spend a crazy amount of money booking a flight to a coastal town, staying in a luxury hotel suite overlooking the mountains, or buying Disney park passes (Disney would make you need a vacation from your vacation, in fact). The benefits of spring break can be reaped right from the comfort of your own home without spending a dime!
Benefits Of Taking A Break Whether A Simple Staycation Or Exorbitant Vacation:
- Improves mood
- Lowers blood pressure
- Increases productivity
- Enables focus
- Reduces stress
- Helps you sleep better
- Strengthens relational bonds
- Creates positive memories
- Relaxes your body
- Quiets your racing mind
- Improves mental health
- Decreases burnout
- Restores higher levels of well-being
According to Alina Health, “Neuroscientists have found that brain structure is altered by chronic exposure to the stress hormone cortisol, which can be a major contributing factor to anxiety and depression. Feelings of calm arise from time away from work and relieve stress.”
Do your future self a favor and take a spring break, even if only for an extended weekend. The benefits of taking time off and simplifying your life are too great to ignore.
